Salesforce Review (2026)

Power

Salesforce is the "Google" of the CRM world. It powers the largest companies on Earth, from Amazon to Coca-Cola. It can do absolutely anything you can imagine—but you might need a Ph.D. (or an expensive consultant) to make it happen.

For a UK small business, using Salesforce is often like driving a Formula 1 car to the supermarket. It is incredibly powerful, but it is also expensive, hard to maintain, and frankly, overkill for what you actually need to do.

In this comprehensive review for 2026, we analyse whether Salesforce is the ultimate growth engine for your business, or if it is a "Money Pit" that will drain your budget on license fees and implementation consultants.

👍 The Good

  • Infinite Customisation: If you can dream it, you can build it in Salesforce.
  • Industry Standard: It is the most recognised CRM in the corporate world.
  • Advanced AI: "Einstein AI" offers incredible predictive analytics.
  • Ecosystem: AppExchange has thousands of integrations.

👎 The Bad

  • Extremely Expensive: License fees are high, and add-ons cost extra.
  • The "Consultant Tax": You almost certainly need to hire an expert to set it up.
  • Steep Learning Curve: Your team will need training to use it effectively.
  • Slow Interface: The "Lightning" UI can feel clunky compared to modern tools.

What is Salesforce?

Salesforce isn't just an app; it's a cloud computing platform. It is designed to be the "Single Source of Truth" for massive organisations. It handles Sales, Service, Marketing, Commerce, and IT.

Because it is designed for everyone, it comes "blank" out of the box. You have to build your processes into it. This is great for a company with a dedicated IT department, but it is a nightmare for a small business owner who just wants to track leads and send emails.

Feature 1: Customisation (The Double-Edged Sword)

This is Salesforce's superpower. You can create custom objects, complex workflows, and validation rules that exactly match your business logic. If you have a highly specific sales process (e.g., medical device sales with regulatory compliance steps), Salesforce is the best tool to enforce that process.

However, this flexibility comes at a cost. "With great power comes great complexity." A simple change, like adding a field to a form, might require navigating through three different setup menus. In GoHighLevel or Pipedrive, that same change takes 10 seconds.

The "Consultant Tax" (Hidden Cost)

This is the most important section of this review. When you buy Salesforce, you aren't just paying for the software. You are almost certainly going to pay for Implementation.

Unlike HubSpot or HighLevel, which you can set up yourself in a weekend, Salesforce usually requires a certified partner to configure it. Implementation projects for small businesses often start at £5,000 - £10,000 and can go up to £100k+ for larger firms.

Warning: If you do not have a budget for implementation, DO NOT buy Salesforce. You will end up with an expensive, empty shell that your team refuses to use.

Pricing Analysis: Per User, Per Month

Salesforce pricing is strictly per-user, paid annually. There is no flat-fee option.

Edition Price (Approx) Key Limitation
Essentials £20 / user Very limited features. No API access.
Professional £60 / user No automation (Flows) or custom code.
Enterprise £120 / user The standard version you actually need.
Unlimited £240 / user Includes 24/7 support and sandboxes.

Example: A team of 10 people on the Enterprise plan will cost £14,400 per year just for the license fees. This does not include the cost of Marketing Cloud (email automation), which is a separate, expensive product.

Salesforce vs. The Competition

Salesforce vs. HubSpot

HubSpot is easier to use. Salesforce is more customisable. If your team hates difficult software, choose HubSpot. If your data requirements are wildly complex, choose Salesforce.

Salesforce vs. GoHighLevel

For agencies and SMEs, GoHighLevel is the clear winner. HighLevel gives you unlimited users for £79/mo. To get similar functionality in Salesforce (CRM + Marketing Automation) for 10 users, you would be paying over £2,000/mo.

Final Verdict: Who is it for?

✅ Buy Salesforce If:

  • You are a Large Enterprise with 50+ sales reps.
  • You have a dedicated RevOps or IT Team to manage the system.
  • You need highly complex data reporting and territory management.

❌ Switch to GoHighLevel If:

  • You are a Small Business or Agency (1-20 employees).
  • You want "Marketing Automation" (Landing Pages, Email, SMS) included in the price.
  • You want to avoid implementation fees and long setup times.

Winner for Enterprise: Salesforce

Winner for SMEs: GoHighLevel
